Sustainable transport

Bikes and cars on a road

Traffic growth in South Gloucestershire is well above the national average and car ownership is high too. Traffic jams at rush hour can be severe, particularly along the A4174 Ring Road where many major employers are based.

Our research shows that the public shares our concerns about air quality and congestion. We are therefore taking measures aimed at reducing the number of cars on the roads.

We support public transport, cycling, motorcycling and walking in South Gloucestershire. We have also taken steps to make car-sharing easier and to support employers and schools who want to encourage their staff or pupils to find more sustainable ways of getting to work or class.
