How safe is South Gloucestershire?

South Gloucestershire is a safe area in which to live compared with many other parts of the country. This is evident in both casualty numbers per head of population and casualty rates per kilometre travelled on our roads.

Other encouraging signs from 2007 indicating that South Gloucestershire is becoming increasingly safe include:

  • The number of fatalities on our roads, 7 was the lowest since South Gloucestershire became a unitary authority in 1996
  • The number of people killed or seriously injured,88 was the lowest since 1998
  • The number of people slightly injured, 938 was the lowest since 1997

Road casualty review

Every year, we produce a road casualty review.

This document sets out information about the road accident casualties for the previous year and the priority areas for action that result from those casualties.

It details the programmes for casualty reduction schemes in South Gloucestershire for the future, and evidence of 'before and after' monitoring for schemes that have already been implemented.

It also contains a list of accident concentration sites.
