You can request a dropped kerb online using the web form below.

Before completing a web form, please ensure you have all necessary details to hand. This might include reference numbers, address details or bank details, etc.

Some of our web forms use maps. If you are using Firefox or Internet Explorer web browser and find that maps are not being displayed correctly, please upgrade your browser version to resolve this (see 'Other websites').

What you can expect

Officers will monitor installation to ensure work is compliant.

External Contractors
If you would like to use another contractor (non council) to install the dropped kerb, they have to meet the demands of the Council. They will need to comply with the specification and be registered under the ‘New Roads and Street Works Act’ to conduct street works, and carry all the relevant insurance requirements.

Refusal
Reasons why you may be refused:

• The construction of a crossing would be over public open space owned and maintained by the council and if built would be detrimental to the open space.
• A tree, piece of street furniture or similar exists on the route of the proposed crossing and it is not possible to move this.
• Traffic orders in the area make it impossible to accommodate a crossing (e.g. Bus stop, formal on street parking bay)
• There is a safety implication to consider e.g. the vehicle using the dropped kerb would be carrying out a dangerous manoeuvre at a junction, roundabout approach, major route, etc.
• The proposed access puts other road users at risk or seriously interferes with the free flow of traffic on a busy road
• The dropped kerb location is too close to traffic signals
• There would be inadequate visibility for vehicles using the dropped kerb
• An appropriate design can not be accommodated within the scope of the works (adverse camber in sufficient width etc)
• There is insufficient space to accommodate an average sized vehicle fully within the property. Typically, a minimum of 4.80m/15ft 9in deep and 2.40m/7ft 10in wide would be required.
• A crossing may be refused in situations where surface water will flow across public footway and on to the highway. All water should be contained within the property in accordance with planning legislation.
