Contribute your views to the re-visit of SEND services in South Gloucestershire

We have been notified by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that they will carry out a re-visit to evaluate how effectively leaders have addressed the areas of serious weaknesses detailed in the written statement of action (WSOA) for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The WSOA followed the previous inspection that took place in November 2017 of the services the council and its health and education partners provide to identify and meet the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Our WSOA monitoring update January 2020 is now available to read.

The re-visit will take place from Monday 10 to Wednesday 12 February 2020. It will include meetings with senior leadership from health, education and social care, and an open session with parents and carers.

During the re-visit, Ofsted and CQC inspectors will be keen to speak to as many children and young people and their parents and carers as possible, specifically about the weaknesses identified in the WSOA.

How you can contribute your views

1.      Ahead of the re-visit, parents and carers will be invited to take part in an online survey from 12 noon on Monday 3 February to 12 noon on Friday 7 February. Parents and carers who would like to take part in this survey can follow this internet link: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SouthGloucestershireRe-VisitLASEND/
Please note this link is no longer available.

2.       An open meeting of parents and carers and the Ofsted/CQC re-visit team, which will focus on areas identified in the WSOA, will take place on Monday 10 February at BAWA, 589 Southmead Road, Filton, BS34 7RF from 7pm until 8.30pm. This will give parents and carers of children and young people with SEND the opportunity to meet the inspectors face to face. It will be a group meeting (not a 1:1 drop-in). Please register your interest in attending the open meeting through South Glos Parents & Carers (our local SEND Parent Carer Forum). You can email South Glos Parents & Carers at team@sglospc.org.uk with any queries about the open meeting.
