Most of us rely on transport. It needs to be safe and efficient at meeting our needs, with minimal impact on the local and global environment. A good transport system is a necessity for the social and economic success of an area.
Providing and promoting sustainable transport in collaboration with adjoining authorities is a key part of the council's transport planning responsibilities. In our plans you will see how public transport, motorcycling, cycling and even walking will be affected over the next few years. And it is because of the quality of this work that South Gloucestershire Council has been designated a Centre of Excellence by the Department for Transport and is currently the second highest rated transport authority in the country.
We don't just plan transport changes however. We are responsible every day for making sure that public transport, roads, pavements and footpaths are all safe and well maintained.
