Council budgets and spending

Money - coins and notes.

We are required by law and best accounting practices to publish certain financial information about both what we intend to spend each year (its budget) and to publish our accounts, which shows what was actually spent in each year.

Excluding schools, we spend over £340 million a year. Central Government provides about £80 million in grants towards these costs.

Every year we ask you for your priorities to help us decide how this money is spent.

Budget consultation

Every year we have to decide how to allocate our budget across council services and set council tax ...

The council’s annual accounts

Every year we publish our Annual Statement of Accounts and the Annual Audit Letter.
