Agencies join forces for snap site inspection

Officers from South Gloucestershire Council, the police, fire service, Health & Safety Executive and Environment Agency joined forces today to launch a multi-agency inspection of business units at the Bridge Road Industrial Estate in Kingswood.

The joint action followed repeated concerns from local residents, businesses and elected members about activities at the site, including possible non-compliance with health and safety and environmental regulations.

Concerns were also raised about the nature of alterations to the former factory buildings, including possible failure to comply with planning and fire regulations when dividing and sub-dividing business units.

The site is understood to house more than 50 units, which are let to businesses undertaking a wide range of activities.

Due to the varied nature of activities at the site, and the range of potential infringements, the site was adopted as a pilot for a multi-agency enforcement approach with the potential to deliver better regulation and resource savings.

Agencies will now review the outcomes of the inspection and consider any further action that should be taken.
