BIG Spring Clean

Countryside

Volunteer groups and residents across South Gloucestershire are once again springing into action to clean up their neighbourhood and open spaces, helping to transform South Gloucestershire as part of the national LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE campaign.

The South Gloucestershire BIG Spring Clean 2013 ran from 1 March – 30 April, encouraging everyone to join in. Friends, families, neighbours, parish councils, community and voluntary groups, church groups, schools, students, youth clubs, scouts, cadets, brownies, guides, and businesses are all taking action against litter.

Free equipment was offered to groups who organised a community BIG Spring Clean event and we collected the bags of litter.  The Big Spring Clean is the perfect opportunity to venture down to your local open space, woodland, river, park or public garden and help to keep it green.

This years Big Spring Clean proved very successful:

  • 61 groups took part
  • 2000 volunteers including three primary schools
  • 400 bags of rubbish were collected.

Some groups couldn't take part during the Big Spring Clean campaign and are instead holding their events over the summer.  Even though the campaign has ended for this year, you can still hold your own litter picking event.

If you wish to hold your own event, please contact us to see if we can loan you equipment for free including litter pickers, hoops, gloves and bags.
To help you recycle, please request some clear plastic bags for your group on the booking form. For more information about recycling please visit our recycling page.

Unfortunately we are no longer able to provide skips.  However, funding is available through the Safer Stronger Groups which can help to provide equipment including skips for future community litter picks and next year's Big Spring Clean.

There will be two events held on 1 June and 2 June involving litter picking, geocaching and picnic in Yate and Patchway.  These are the ideal opportunity to help clean your local green space and discover a new hobby.  Find out more here.
