What is community learning?
Community learning works with adults aged 19 and over who have few formal qualifications and is funded directly by the Skills Funding Agency. Our funding is used to engage local residents back into learning with the specific aim of improving their skills for personal development, to find and succeed in work and to participate in family and community life. We work in partnership with Bristol and North Somerset Councils to deliver learning in those communities of the greatest need.
Community learning also works in partnership with many community and voluntary organisations to offer a wide range of courses to local residents to strengthen community capacity and help people to lead more fulfilled lives.
Annual learner of the year award
Hosted by us in conjunction with other learning organisations the annual event celebrates participation as well as achievement by individuals aged 19 and over who have taken a range of community learning courses during the past year.
This year Ave Edwards, who had taken several courses including English and maths and had 100 per cent attendance, won the award. More than 1,500 people have attended various part-time courses to boost confidence, gain computer skills and learn vital job seeking skills.
All of our courses are currently free and are offered at venues throughout South Gloucestershire. Our current prospectus of courses
will be available from libraries, job centres, one stop shops and other community venues. If you would like further information regarding community learning please contact us on 01454 864613
