Many people living in South Gloucestershire work in Bristol and often have trouble driving there due to traffic jams. Park and ride services provide a good alternative to driving into a city and reduce congestion.
Existing schemes serving Bristol already carry 2.1m passengers per year.
The Local Transport Plan that we have developed with neighbouring local authorities proposes expanding and developing the park and ride system.
We are now developing plans for park and ride schemes at Yate/Nibley and Emersons Green.
Stoke Gifford Park and Ride
South Gloucestershire’s first park and ride at Hunts Ground Road, Stoke Gifford, near Bristol Parkway rail station was opened on the 6th June 2011.
The site provides extra parking for commuters using train services at Parkway Station and will also serve the regular bus services that call at Parkway.
Its location also means that it is well-placed to serve the proposed North Fringe to Hengrove rapid transit scheme.
The location is just off Hunts Ground Road, approximately 400 metres east of Parkway Railway Station and holds 200 car parking spaces including provision for disabled car parking and motorbikes. Parking at the site will cost £5* a day in the week and £3* a day at weekends and Bank Holidays. Motorcycle parking is free.
The site is fully lit with CCTV coverage and the gates are locked at 01:00 and opened at 06:00 to enhance security. Payments at the machines are by credit/debit card and mobile phone payments only. There is an additional small charge for paying by phone.
