Local Development Scheme

New Housing

The Local Development Scheme is a programme for preparing Local Development Documents for the period 2007-2009. It was agreed by the Government Office for the South West in July 2007.  In August 2007 the dates for the community engagement on the Issues and Options for the Core Strategy and Gypsy & Traveller DPDs were amended and agreed with the Government Office (see Erratum at front of the Local Development Scheme).  There is a link to the Local Development Scheme in the 'Read More' box on the right hand side of this page.

Our work priorities are:

Adoption of the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

In February 2008 the Planning Inspectorate considered the representations and examined the SCI and found it to be 'sound' and in accord with regulations.  The Council then adopted the SCI on 21st May.

The adopted final version of the document is currently being compiled and printed - this will be available in hard copy and on this website in September/October.  Meanwhile, the version that was approved by Full Council for adoption is available on the 'Documents in the South Gloucestershire LDF' page (link in more in this topic section on the right of this page).

Preparation of the Gypsy and Traveller DPD (Development Plan Document)

This will identify the need for additional sites for Gypsies and Travellers and make provision to meet this need. The Issues and Options document for this DPD was published for consultation in January/February 2008, the responses to which are now being used to inform the production of the next stage - the 'Preferred Options'.

Preparation of the Core Strategy DPD

This will set out the spatial vision for South Gloucestershire and the policies for meeting that vision.  The Core Strategy Issues and Options document was published for consultation in early May 2008.

Preparation of a West of England Joint Waste DPD

Together with Bristol City, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset Councils, we are involved in a project to deliver a waste management treatment capacity over the next 20 years. One part of the project is the preparation of a Joint Waste DPD for strategic waste management facilities, which will identify sites.

Various public awareness-raising events were held in summer 2006 throughout the west of England. Public consultation took place on issues and options in early 2007. Details are available on the 'Rubbish or Resource?' website.

Preparation of the Site Allocations DPD

This will identify the sites which are proposed for development to meet our spatial vision and core strategy. This will follow from work on the Core Strategy DPD.

Preparation of Supplementary Planning Documents

A number of documents are proposed to provide guidance on policies and proposals in the Local Plan. Work on these should be completed before December 2008.
