Council plan 2008 - 2011

The Council Plan 2008-11

The Council Plan sets out an ambitious strategy of achieving excellence for our residents and their communities.

The Plan explains our contribution to the delivery of the Sustainable Community Strategy agreed with our partners to ensure that South Gloucestershire continues to be:

“A great place to live and work”

The plan contains seven corporate aims to meet this vision. These are:

  1. Investing in children and young people
  2. Improving health, modernising community care and health services
  3. Managing future development
  4. Promoting safer and stronger communities
  5. Valuing the environment
  6. Maintaining economic prosperity
  7. Ensuring we are “Fit for our Future” – the council’s improvement programme

The recently agreed budget sets out how councillors have prioritised resources to meet these aims. Special focus will be placed in the medium term on achieving excellence. We will deliver:

  • Excellent standards of achievement for all our young people
  • Our older people experiencing good health and well-being with a focus on sustaining independence and personalised care in later years
  • Future housing development which is vibrant, cohesive, sustainable and well integrated with our existing communities
  • Trough innovative partnership working a transport infrastructure that rivals any major European city
