What does being a UKYP MP involve?

Meeting between South Gloucestershire UKYP members
  • You will have the opportunity to campaign for changes for young
people that are in your manifesto and represent the young people of
South Glos. Being their representative is a huge responsibility and
    needs a lot of commitment.
  • You will need to attend a 2hr meeting most weeks. This includes
being a member of the South Glos Youth Forum.
  • There are six South West regional meetings of the UKYP. These
take up a day during each school holiday. There is also a SW regional
residential in March where you will plan regional campaigns and
    activities for the year.
  • The UKYP National Sitting will be held over a long weekend at the
end of July. Young MPs from all over the UK attend and work on the
    manifesto for next year.
  • You will be invited to meetings with government ministers and other
national figures who will discuss issues of concern to young people.
  • You will meet lots of new people, make new friends from throughout
the UK and have a lot of fun! But it will take up a great deal of your
    time!
  • You will have the support of a youth worker who will make sure you
can get to meetings and meet you regularly to plan what you want to
do. All your expenses will be paid.
