On 31st March 2008 the Council took on further responsibility for parking enforcement from the police.
The Council is responsible for:
• Yellow lines (double & single lines plus time limited areas).
• Council car parks (time limits and not parking within marked bays).
• On street parking and loading bays.
• Taxi ranks.
• Parking on pavements and verges where it is public highway and there are yellow lines on the road along side them.
• School entrance markings
• Pedestrian crossings and the zig zag markings approaching them
• Disabled parking bay
• HGVs parking on the pavement
Further parking enforcement powers may be introduced in the future.
The police are still responsible for all other enforcement including obstruction of vehicle access (e.g. driveways/garages) and obstruction of footpathspavements where there are no parking restrictions.
