Youth chamber orchestra

New ensemble

The South Gloucestershire Youth Chamber Orchestra is a full orchestral ensemble meeting for at least one concert per term. Rehearsals take place over a two-week period outside of exam times culminating in a concert of music primarily from the Classical and Romantic periods (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven etc.). There are also ‘playing days’ where the orchestra is augmented in size and larger-scale works are rehearsed in workshops ending in an informal performance.

SGYCO is open to all players in the area who have reached a minimum standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 5 on an orchestral instrument (including percussion), with entrance via audition. The majority of auditions take place each year in July, although players can apply and audition using the online application form at any time during the year to be able to attend the termly informal ‘playing days’ and to be added to the list of reserve players.

The Chamber Orchestra is organised and directed by Music Service tutors Dury Loveridge, Sarah Bushnell and Sarah Eales.
