Sample email about Bullying

"Well... the thing is... where do I start? It's awkward, I don't want you to think I'm exaggerating or making it up... OK, there is this girl at school.. she's in the year above.. she's really cool, everyone loves her... I don't... she's horrible... she laughs at me.. she points and laughs at me when she is with her friends. I've never even spoken to her!.. she's making me feel really self conscious.. I'm sure I've heard her shouting things across the playground at me but if I look around she acts like she hasn't done anything.. then I look away and they laugh. And I've been getting really horrible notes left in my locker... I'm sure its her but how can I prove it? .. I don't know what to do anymore... I've been skipping school to try and avoid her.. or at least I tried to skip school... and got caught and now I'm in trouble. What do I do? It'll get worse if I tell someone, I know it will, please help!!"

What's Up replies:

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that things aren't good for you at the moment. First of all, try to stay cool. Don't show this girl that what she is doing is upsetting you. And remember, what she is saying isn't necessarily true. A lot of bullies are insecure about themselves and have to take it out on other people to make themselves feel better. Have you tried to talk to someone about what is going on? You could try talking to one of the people listed below:

  • Parent or carer
  • Friends
  • Teachers
  • Youth workers
  • Brother or sister
  • Connexions personal advisor

Alternatively contact one of the organisations listed on our website. I hope this helps and that things get better for you soon.
You can email your problems to whatsup@southglos.gov.uk

Please note that emails sent to What's UP will only be answered every two weeks. In an emergency you could use one of the emergency contacts, see under related links.
