The collection was formed in 1990 to record the achievements and contributions to aviation, aerospace and other branches of engineering of the Bristol Aeroplane Company and its successors at Filton and Patchway. The story began in February 1910 when the chairman of the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Company, Sir George White, decided to enter aviation. The collection moved to Kemble in 1996. In a large wartime hangar on this active airfield it has assembled a comprehensive collection of exhibits setting out the continuous development of military and civil aircraft, helicopters, guided missiles, aero engines and space exploration. It is hoped to relocate the collection to Filton in South Gloucestershire where Concorde G-BOAF - the last aircraft to be assembled at Filton, is displayed and open to the public.
