Parking on the pavement & dropped kerbs

Parking on the pavement and in front of dropped kerbs

Parking on the pavement - particularly when it obstructs wheelchair users, is a matter for the local police.

Dealing with parking on pavements and verges where it is public highway and where there are yellow lines on the road alongside them is the responsibility of the council.

If pavement parking presents a problem to you, please contact your local police station. The website for Avon and Somerset Police can be found under 'Other websites'.

A new contravention in new legistlation gives councils the option of enforcing obstructions to dropped kerbs. This option has been available since 31st March 2008, however until further guidance is published and suitable regulations allow for an approved method of signing dropped kerbs – as is legally required - South Gloucestershire Council will not be using this new power. If vehicle is causing an obstruction then the police retain powers to deal with this problem.
