If you own your home and you are worried about missing a mortgage payment, or you are already in mortgage arrears, it is important that you do something now before the situation gets worse. Your mortgage is a priority, so you should pay this before any other debts you may have.
If you have not already done so, talk to your mortgage lender about your situation and ask what other payment options may be available. See the, ‘Are you worried about your mortgage’ leaflet under the read more section for further advice and information.
The Government has also announced a number of schemes that may help you including the,
- Mortgage Rescue Scheme
- Homeowners Mortgage Support Scheme
You can find further information about these schemes under the read more and other website sections. The leaflets also tell you what you need to do next if you are interested in these schemes.
If your lender is taking possession proceedings, it is important that you get financial advice straight away. The Bristol Debt Advice Centre, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Shelter can all offer money advice. Please use the links under other websites for contact information.
If you already have a Court date set, it is important that you attend. If you have not received any legal advice, or you do not have a Solicitor, there will be a duty Solicitor at the Court who can represent you. If you do not attend the hearing the judge may have no option but to agree to your home being repossessed.
If you would like to discuss any of the schemes that may be available, or any of the housing options that may be open to you, please telephone our HomeChoice Team on 01454 865 496. The team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Please remember that it is never too late to try and save your home.
