The Road Safety Team concentrates the majority of its resources on young drivers because they suffer the highest casualties of all age groups. There are a number of schemes to reduce casualties in this group. Two are detailed on this page.
Pre-driver training
South Gloucestershire Council works in partnership with North Avon Driving Instructors Association (NADIA) to provide pre-driver training. The course is offered to people before they are able to hold a licence. The course consists of theory sessions and 'on-road' training on a private road system.
Pass Plus
Pass Plus offers newly qualified drivers six additional training modules, including motorway and night driving.
As part of the West of England Road Safety Partnership the council offers £75 towards the overall cost which is variable but in the region of £150.Part of the cost of the course is paid for by Speed Choice, part of the Safety Camera Partnership.
The Road Safety Team works closely with the Driving Standards Agency
