Businesses that produce or prepare food for the public are inspected to make sure that the food is safe to eat and the description of the food is not misleading.
When a business starts up we will carry out an initial inspection. We will then carry out inspections on a routine, usually unannounced basis. We have the right to enter at all reasonable hours. How often we inspect depends on the type of food produced and how well you comply with the law. We may also visit you if a complaint has been made.
During the visit we will make sure that you are complying with the law. You may be issued with an action. If you are given an action, you must be told whether it is good practice or a legal requirement. The action will be confirmed in writing. Except where there is an immediate risk to health, you will be given a reasonable amount of time to make any necessary changes.
