Allotment conditions of use

What you can do:
  • We will allow you to put a shed on your allotment plot. However, please be aware that the security of the shed is your responsibility and it is not advisable to store insecticides or any other chemicals on the allotment site. If you decide to give up your allotment plot you must remove the shed
  • You are allowed to grow fruit bushes on your allotment plot but if you give up your plot you may be asked to remove them
  • You may build a compost container on you allotment plot but you will be asked to clear all allotment waste if you give up your plot
  • You may give up your allotment plot at any time but you must let the allotment officer know in writing

What you can't do:

  • The council does not allow greenhouses on any of the allotment sites for health and safety reasons
  • The council does not allow bonfires on any of the allotment sites for health and safety reasons
  • You are not allowed to plant an ornamental tree or a tree that bears fruit on your allotment plot. Trees grow to be quite large and will deplete nutrients from the soil of neighbouring plots
  • Produce must not be sold on the allotment site
  • You must not give your allotment plot to another person if you no longer want it because there may be a waiting list of other people wishing to rent an allotment plot on the site
