Hanham - a Sure Start Children's Centre

Welcome to Sure Start

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Hanham Sure Start Children's Centre.
The centre is operated by a friendly team of workers that can offer support and assistance to parents/carers of pre-school children (0-5). We also have resources and an information service available for you to access, please speak with a member of the team for more information.

'Stay and Play'

Stay and play is different from other parent and toddler groups. Stay and play aims to support parents with their child's physical, social and emotional development through providing a range of fun and exciting play activities. We are available to parents and families to offer support and information on a wide variety of areas, e.g. childcare provision and work opportunities.

'Stay and Play' opening times

Monday 1.15 - 3.15pm

Friday 9.30 - 11.30am 

Stay and Play - as we are now getting busier (which is great news) we have found the need to limit the number of children for each session for safety reasons; the maximum number will be set at 12 children, this may mean we will have to turn away parents/carers once this limit has been met.

We have found it important to ensure that as many people can access our service as possible and it may be necessary to advise that people only attend once a week when we are busy. 

Our Stay and Play sessions will continue during the School holidays.

Baby Buddies

Wednesday 10.00-11.30am

This group is a drop in session for new Mums and their babies, where they can get information, support and make new friends. Please phone for further information. 

Childminders group

Thursday 9.15-11.45am.

This weekly group aims to support child-minders in developing good practice and allowing children they care for to socialise in a good quality play environment. This group is supported by the South Gloucestershire Development Worker and is open to all registered child-minders.  

Targeted services

The Children’s Centre also offers a number of services that are targeted to meet specific needs of families. This includes working with families in their own homes and specialist groups. These groups can be accessed by self-referral, or a single service referral from any agency.

Baby Clinic 'drop in'

This session takes place every Tuesday morning 9.30am - 12.00pm. This is run by Nicola Slade, Community Nursery Nurse.

Breastfeeding Group (BIB)

This takes place every Tuesday afternoon 1.00pm - 2.30pm.  This sessions gives you the chance to have your baby weighed. 

Samuel White's Toddler Group

This group is held at Samuel White's Infant School, Creswicke Avenue, Hanham, South Gloucestershire, BS15 3PN on Tuesdays (Term time only) 9.15am -11.15am.
Limited number of places available.  

Samuel White's Childminders group

Thursday 9.15-11.15am

Information and advice

All Sure Start Centres within South Gloucestershire now offer families with young children an information, advice and guidance service. Our Family Information Advisers can help you find out about local services and community provision, such as library services, toddler and pre-school groups, local childminders etc. We have information kiosks in every Children’s Centre to help you find out about health services, training and jobs, debt advice, benefit entitlements and much more.

Our Family Information Adviser at this centre is Bronwen Hunt.
