Youth Challenge Award

Who is it for?

  • Young people aged 11-13 or 14

What do you have to do?

  • Take part in 6 activities of 5 hours each and keep a diary or portfolio to show what you've done. This could be with photos, comments from your peers, posters you've designed, questionnaires or anything that shows what you've been involved with
  • You also need to fill in the Youth Challenge booklet
  • Basically you need to decide what you want to do, what you would like to get out of it and after the activities review what you liked and what you didn't. Write it in the booklet and put your evidence in a folder so that someone else can see what you've done
  • There should be an award group made up of young people who could be doing an award themselves, helping to decide on the challenge and reviewing what was done
  • You can choose any activities whether you do them at the youth centre or somewhere else - for example football, swimming, walking the neighbour's dog, helping run the tuck shop or anything you like and you're involved with

What do you get?

  • After completing the 6 activities, you submit your portfolio of evidence and you will get a Youth Challenge certificate
  • Youth challenges are accredited by ASDAN ((Award Scheme and Development Accreditation Network) and are nationally recognised
  • Portfolios get assessed by an internal moderator and are submitted to the regional external moderation meeting to ensure standards are maintained nationally

Youth Challenge Extra

This is exactly the same except that it is the next level up and you have to take on more responsibility and you have to help organise activities, outings, etc. and not just take part.
