Collars, tags and microchipping dogs

Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and tag with your name and address (telephone number is optional, but useful) when it is in a public place. It is a legal requirement, and you could face a fine of up to £5,000 if you fail to do so. It is recommended that you do not put your dog's name on the tag as this can make dog thieves' lives a lot easier.

Although all dogs must wear a collar and ID tag, these can be removed. So we strongly recommend microchipping your dog as extra security. Our dog wardens hold regular microchipping events, if you would like your dog microchipped please complete the 'Request your dog to be microchipped' online form from the Do it now link on the right hand side of the page.
