Trees and planning

Trees make significant contributions to the environment

Tree Officers in the planning department at South Gloucestershire Council are responsible for conserving and protecting trees in non-council ownership throughout the district.

This involves protecting trees through Tree Preservation Orders, ensuring that any development or building works will not unduly affect trees, as well as providing advice and encouraging greater awareness of trees and woodland within the area.

Trees and woodland make a significant contribution to a local area, its surroundings and environment and are amenities for the local community. It is the responsibility of the council to preserve and enhance the quality of trees for the benefit of local communities and the residents of South Gloucestershire.
