Yate Library Building Programme
In order to enable a major refurbishment and extension to be carried out Yate Library is closing and is moving the service temporarily to 23 South parade in Yate Shopping Centre. There will be no library service in Yate from Wednesday 29th October 2008 to Sunday 2nd November 2008 in order to allow the transfer of stock and IT equipment to the temporary premises. From 3rd November the service will be operating from the shop in South parade.
Due to the limited space in the shop, the library will only be able to provide a limited selection of stock and PCs during the closure period but the opening times will not change and will be as follows:
Monday – Friday 9.30am - 7.00pm (closed Wednesdays)
Saturday 9.30am - 5.00pm
Sunday 11.00am - 3.00pm
In addition, Chipping Sodbury Library on the high Street (next to the police station) will be open for longer hours as follows:
Tuesday - Saturday 9.30am - 12.30pm and 1.30pm - 5pm
Monday & Sunday – Closed
The Head of Library, Arts and Information for South Gloucestershire Martin Burton is aware of the disruption it will cause to local people “We apologise for any inconvenience the temporary reduction in service will cause but we are sure that the changes to the building we are making will make a major improvement to the service”.
Yate Library was awarded a grant of £1.5 million from the Big lottery Fund to extend and redesign the interior of the library to create a building that it is hoped will become the hub of community activity in Yate. The project has been called Yate 3D as the project will help to develop the library, develop lives and develop communities. The extension will include space for community learning and an exhibition area to enable local organisations to engage with the community. It will also include community office space to provide a base for various local groups.
