"I've recently got in with a new group at school and I've started smoking weed, but now we've started to do heroin needles, I've been spending all my money on drugs, get incessant cravings and I really want to stop. Please help me!"
Hi! You emailed in saying you were having problems with drug abuse and we are here to help you. Here are some points we think you should take into account: - Could you try to stop hanging around with the people who are influencing you and try to find a new group of friends?
- Get some help from a group like 'Frank' (0800 77 66 00)
- Try to take up some positive activities to take your mind off your problems
"I went to a friend's party and everyone was taking pills. They kept trying to convince me to take one and I gave in. It felt really good! I kept taking more. Now I have to take them all the time or I feel low and ill. My parents keep asking me what's wrong and I keep saying nothing, but I don't like lying to them and I can't afford the drugs so I've stolen from my Dad and my local shop. I feel really guilty but I can't stop. I need help."
- There are people who can help you.... talk to the Frank helpline (0800 77 66 00) which is confidential. Or you could ask your youth worker or school counsellor for help
- If you go into your local youth centre or Connexions Shop, you can pick up information leaflets
- Could you ask a friend, or perhaps your parents to support you in going to talk to someone about the problem?
Email your problems to whatsup@southglos.gov.uk
Note that emails sent to What's UP will only be answered every two weeks. In an emergency you could use one of the emergency contacts (see 'Also in this topic').
