  • Rehearsal and performance opportunities for young musicians (SGYM)
  • A source of information and advice for schools and the wider community
  • Live music performances by Music Service staff (linked to the curriculum) are offered to schools usually twice a year.
  • A primary schools' carol service takes place at Clifton Cathedral with up to a 1,000 pupils taking part.

Instrumental teaching is available for junior- and secondary-age pupils. The Music Service has a widely experienced team of over 65 staff offering teaching across a broad range of instruments.

Curriculum support is offered to all schools and is targeted according to their needs. Support is provided by the teaching and learning adviser for Music.

Area music centres operate on Saturday mornings at Kingswood, Thornbury and Yate.  The centres provide opportunities for pupils to participate in a range of performance activities, for which a charge is made.

Other activities during the week include 5 training string groups, 2 Flutissimo groups, Flutelets, Senior Strings, a Jazz Orchestra, Reed Up!(a clarinet/saxophone ensemble).  These groups are term time only so please see the rehearsal schedule for each group.

There is also a Youth Orchestra and Youth Wind Orchestra who rehearse and perform at least twice a year.
