The South Gloucestershire Youth Forum was created in 2001 by young people for young people to have a say. It is funded by the South Gloucestershire Youth Service and Connexions who firmly believe that what young people have to say is important.
“We believe that young people have a right to be heard and their views and opinions should be treated as equal to adults.”
The forum's activities and achievements have included visiting the Houses of Parliament, participating in council job interviews, informing the council and other agencies what they think the council should be doing for young people and designing leaflets for young people together with the drug action section of 'Safer South Gloucestershire'.
In 2006 the youth forum developed a peer support website, 'What's UP?' covering the issues of bullying, safety on the streets as well as drugs and alcohol. The forum has its own statement of aims and purpose. This is part of a constitution which describes how the forum works and who does what so that nobody gets confused. Two youth workers also come along to assist in organising meetings and activities.
