In rural areas of South Gloucestershire, where access is limited, local groups have established networks of volunteer car drivers to provide transport for essential journeys.
In the Thornbury area the voluntary car scheme is organised by Four Towns & Vale Link with volunteer drivers covering journeys where a minibus is not available.
In Yate, Sodbury & District the Community Transport group use voluntary car drivers for single passengers travelling in some of the more rural areas.
See the ‘community transport operators’ page for contact details.
More informal schemes operate throughout South Gloucestershire to meet the community’s needs. The most recent addition to the community scheme is the Hawkesbury Voluntary Transport (HVT). They can be contacted on 0797 205665.
To find out if there are scheme in your area contact your local parish council.
Where schemes are registered with the council, it is possible to use the concessionary National Travelcard to reduce the cost of the journey. Ask if you can save money before you travel.
