Census

A census is a survey of all people and households in the country. The National Census provides essential information from national to neighbourhood level for government, business and the community. The most recent census was on 29th April 2001.

The Office for National Statistics - see the link under 'Other websites' on the right-hand side of this page, contains detailed reports at local authority, ward, 'New Deal For Communities', 'Super Output Area' and neighbourhood levels.

Alternatively you can view and print a number of census documents on this site.

If you are analysing census data you should be aware of such issues as data rounding which can affect the accuracy of small area statistics.
