Project Description:
The Landscape Consultancy were involved from an early stage in the design, documentation and
implementation of the Kingswood Town Centre Enhancement Scheme. The scheme involved implementing a ‘one way’ 20mph traffic system through the Kingswood town centre. This has worked to successfully provide an improved pedestrian environment in terms of both visual qualities and pedestrian safety and improved cycle and bus facilities, including a dedicated bus
lane.
In searching for suitable street furniture, the Landscape Consultancy tracked down a local company who use a manufacturing firm right on the doorstep – in Kingswood. In order to emphasise and
publicise the locally produced theme, all the cycle stands, litterbins and bollards were shot blasted with a 'made in Kingswood 2002' logo.
The Landscape Consultancy managed to secure funding for three public art projects, for the production of footway paving features and seating. The artists have engaged with local community groups and traders in design workshops to create individual pieces of local significance.
