There is a new guide for looked-after children and young people which contains all you need to know about being in care in South Gloucestershire.
It has lots of useful information and advice and parts of it have been written by young people with experience of being in care.
This guide is about what being looked after is all about, what should happen, the kind of care you should expect to get, your rights, and how to make sure that we give you what you need.
There are different sections, which are:
- People who share your care
- Your rights
- Your plans
- Your placement
- Getting what you need
- Leaving care
- The law and other things that you may need to know
“Going into care can be an upsetting time but people are trying to help you and as hard as it sometimes is, help yourself and give them a chance. You never know, you may be surprised at how nice they are. You're not betraying anyone you love just because you're happy in care. Chances are, that's exactly what they want you to be. So think positive and be happy, because being sad or angry never helped anybody.”
