North Fringe to Hengrove package

The North Fringe to Hengrove is a £168 million package of transport improvements that runs between north and south Bristol via the city centre. It is being developed by South Gloucestershire Council and Bristol City Council working together as part of the West of England Partnership.

What is the proposed route?

There are two branches within South Gloucestershire. One branch of the route is in the North Fringe of Bristol. Following consultation this has now been extended to run from Cribbs Causeway through Aztec West, Bradley Stoke, Stoke Gifford, Harry Stoke, Coldhardbour Lane and then along the M32 into Bristol city centre.

The second branch will run to the East Fringe of Bristol from Emersons Green, serving the new Science Park and proposed park and ride site in Emersons Green East past Hambrook and on to Bristol City Centre.

Having your say

The initial consultation has now closed. The results of this consultation will contribute to the development of the scheme bid to the Department for Transport (DfT) in Spring 2010. If the DfT approves the scheme there will be further opportunities to have your say as the scheme plans are developed in more detail and before construction starts which could be as early as 2013.

What happens next?

On 31 March 2010 the bid for funding was submitted to the Department for Transport, if the scheme is given the go ahead later this year, construction work could start in 2013. To read the full bid submission visit www.travelplus.org.uk/northfringetohengrove
