If you have a South Gloucestershire Council library ticket you can make use of these exciting new information sources. Just have your library ticket ready and choose one of the databases below.

  • Family History Ancestry - search for your ancestors on-line (access via South Gloucestershire library PCs only). Contact the library to book a free internet session
  • Newspapers Online - NewsBank gives you access to archived articles for national newspapers such as The Times, The Guardian and the Daily Express. Local titles eg the Evening Post and the Western Daily Press are also available. On the international front NewsBank gives access to the New York Times and its supplements as well as the China Daily (in English). Many newspapers can be searched from 1998 to the present day. A great resource for those tracing a news story.
  • Oxford English Dictionary Online - The Oxford English Dictionary is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past. It traces the usage of words through 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of international English language sources, from classic literature and specialist periodicals to film scripts and cookery books
  • Oxford Reference Online - Oxford Reference Online: Premium Collection is a vast on-line reference library available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. It combines in-depth content offered by titles in the acclaimed Oxford Companions series with authoritative, quick-reference coverage of the full subject spectrum
  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography - explore the lives of over 55,000 people who have shaped Britain over the last 2,400 years – from Julius Caesar and Boudicca to Princess Diana and Sid Vicious.
  • Grove Music Online - the multi award-winning Grove Music Online is the ultimate authority on all aspects of music worldwide – from classical to hip-hop and from baroque to blues
  • Grove Art Online - the multi award-winning Grove Art Online is the ultimate authority on all aspects of the visual arts worldwide – from prehistory to the present day
