This information is for the academic year 2008/2009.

To apply for student support for the first time you will need to complete a PN1 form. You can do this in a number of ways.

By contacting:

  • The Department for Children and Young People Information Service on 01454 868008 or email cis@southglos.gov.uk
  • Downloading the form from the Dfes website
  • Applying on-line from the Student Finance Direct website
  • Visit any of the South Gloucestershire Council offices listed below to pick up a form
    • Riverside Court, Bowling Hill
    • Yate One-Stop Shop
    • Kingswood One-Stop Shop
    • Thornbury One-Stop Shop
    • South Gloucestershire schools sixth forms

When does the completed form have to be returned by?

Ideally by 27th June 2008. Applications received by 27th June 2008 should have their support arrangements in place for the start of the first term as long as all documents requested are enclosed with the application. Applications can still be submitted up until the end of May 2009 if the course commences in the autumn of 2008 but funding will not start for the beginning of term.

Please make sure:

  • All sections on the form are completed
  • The relevant declarations are signed and dated
  • Your original birth certificate or passport is enclosed
  • If you are under 25 and have supported yourself for 3 years or more enclose P60s to show proof

Please note there was a change in 2007/08 regarding documents we are able to accept as proof of identity.

Students have to supply their passports (copies are not acceptable). If you do not have a passport then you have to be able to supply your original birth certificate plus two written and signed declarations which:

  • Must be from the student and must state they do not have a passport
  • Is to verify the authenticity of the birth certificate and must be from a professional person (for example, a civil servant, form teacher or other person of good standing in the community) whose identity can be verified

The professional person must currently live in the UK, must hold a current British or Irish passport and must have known you for at least 2 years.
They must also provide very specific information about themselves and you in order for us to accept and verify their declaration.
We are including an information sheet in the packs to advise you what documents to bring into any of our council offices if you do not want to put them in the post.
