There are many tablets, plaques and statues in South Gloucestershire marking those who died in wars. Many are in churchyards or on private land, while some are on land owned by South Gloucestershire Council.
Although there is no legal obligation for the council to spend public money on maintaining war memorials on public open space, we are entitled to do so and we do our best where necessary. If you are concerned about the state of repair of a memorial on land we own, please contact us. Local parish councils or landowners may be responsible for the maintenance of other memorials and other sources of grants are available.
This site contains details of war memorials open to the public. However, you should note that you might need permission to access memorials that are inside buildings. If you know of a war memorial that is open to the public that is not included here, please contact us. If you know of a name that is not currently on the war memorial but deserves to be, please contact the British Legion. We have not included the names of those commemorated on this site but this information may be available on-line on the Roll of Honour website. This is an external website that aims to provide a national database of all war memorials in the UK, including the names and regiments of those commemorated.
