The council provides impartial advice, information and enforcement services on a broad range of pollution control issues.

This includes:

  • Air quality
  • Contaminated land
  • Industrial processes
  • Environmental searches
  • Industrial pollution control
  • Planning consultation
  • Radon and radiation

In addition we:

  • Respond to major pollution incidents in liaison with other agencies and undertake emergency training exercises
  • Maintain a presence on local liaison groups (for instance at quarries, industrial sites, etc.)
  • Provide responses to development control and produce planning guidance on pollution issues
  • Support a regional group - The Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset Environmental Protection Committee, which works towards developing best practice and sharing experience and expertise
