Contaminated land

Throughout the UK there are numerous sites where land has become contaminated by human activities, including mining, industry, chemical and oil spills and waste disposal.

We have a duty to identify contaminated sites in the area and state how we will deal with them. We have drawn up a contaminated land strategy to do this.  To see the strategy use the link in the "read more" box.

If land is potentially contaminated, planning permission might be refused. We have produced a technical advice note for developers and others that you can download from the read more box.

We also keep a public register of contaminated land sites which you can view at the Thornbury council offices. Please contact us if you would like to see it.
