Why do we need to support the education of children and young people in care?
Many children and young people in care have experienced great personal upheaval which has caused them to miss chunks of their schooling either through actual absence or because they cannot concentrate due to distress. There are significant gaps between what they and their classmates achieve.
Children and young people in care are at greater risk of being those pupils who are excluded from school, do not attend school, suffer from emotional behaviour difficulties or have special educational needs. This often means that the results for them are not as good as for other children in their school.
