South Gloucestershire Youth Board

South Gloucestershire Youth Board is a group where young people are able to voice their opinion and make changes to things ...

  • to improve things for young people
  • do something about the issues that matter to them
  • get young people's views heard

The Youth Board gets involved in loads of different things like:

  • Sounds Positive campaign- looking at young people's image in the media
  • regular meetings with Sheila Cook (The Executive Member for Children & Young People) and Therese Gillespie (Director of Children & Young People services) to share their opinions and views and keep them up to date with young people's issues
  • campaigning for cheaper transport and working with councillors and the Council's Transport department to set up the Youth Unltd discount bus pass for young people
  • trips and weekends away

You don’t have to be super-confident, but you do need to have some experience of participating in a youth forum, school council, committee, volunteering in your community, etc.  You will  get support from other Youth Board members and youth workers and get to meet new people, have fun and do new things.

Not only does the Youth Board provide a mean for young people to have a 'voice', it also enables young people to develop confidence and skills. It can also provide a safe supported space to build relationships with peers.

If you are 13 – 19 year olds (25 years old for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities), have experience of forum and would like to help young people have their voices heard in what happens in their local area, please contact Vicki or Julia on 01454 865252.
