Asset management plan

Following the Comprehensive Spending Review and the introduction of new initiatives for Capital Funding such as New Deal for Schools and Public Finance Initiatives (PFI), the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) was keen to introduce a system that allocated money fairly between authorities and then to schools based on the best available information. 1999 saw their publication of Asset Management Plans – Framework.

This document was a written analysis about identifying ‘need’ set against locally agreed priorities. The purpose of the AMP is to establish and develop such a system.

The DCSF saw as a key element in this process, the bringing together of partnerships with schools, dioceses and other educational stakeholders to shape and progress the principles of asset management plans.

In South Gloucestershire the Asset Management Planning work is undertaken within the Department for Children and Young People by the Asset Management and Capital Planning Section. Technical input in terms of condition and suitability is provided by Property Services.
