Changes to the complaints procedure
From 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a member may have breached the Code of Conduct is moving to the Standards Committees of local authorities.
What this means to you:
If you want to complain about the conduct of a member of South Gloucestershire Council or a member of one of our parish or town councils, you must submit your complaint in writing to:
The Monitoring Officer
South Gloucestershire Council
Council Offices
Castle Street
Thornbury
South Gloucestershire
BS35 1HF
The Standards Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the members' Code of Conduct. A copy of the Code of Conduct is attached.
If you make a complaint you must make the complaint in writing and it will be considered by the Referral sub-committee. The complaint must be about why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct.
Until 8 May 2008, the Standards Board for England was responsible for carrying out this function. Please visit the Standards Board’s website at www.standardsboard.gov.uk for further information.
