Longwell Green plays starring role in new film
08 May 2008
Discover the hidden beauty of Longwell Green in a film about Cock Road Ridge by artist Deborah Aguirre Jones, which is to be premiered on Saturday 17 May.
The film was commissioned by South Gloucestershire Council to celebrate the opening of Longwell Green Leisure Centre, and captures the different moods of the changing seasons.
Its aim is to encourage leisure centre users to walk through the lovely open space, and on rainy days people can still experience the beauty spot from the comfort of their running machine as the film will be shown on screens around the gym.
Artist Deborah worked closely with the Friends of Cock Road Ridge to make the short film. She said: “Cock Road Ridge is a beautiful place, especially in late summer and early autumn which is when we were making this film. Working with the Friends group was a real privilege, and I hope the film will be a welcome addition to Longwell Green Leisure Centre's gym experience."
At the premiere, those attending will have the opportunity to watch the movie and then walk through the ridge to experience it first hand. During the walk Martin Maudsley will tell some scary stories based on the area’s history, and music will be provided by musician Fiona Barrow.
A free swim voucher will be given away to everyone attending the event, which is free and suitable for all ages.
