You may be entitled to other types of financial assistance, including: - Free school meals
- Free milk, vitamins, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables
- SureStart maternity grant
If you are aged 16 to 19 years old or 25 with special educational needs you can apply for travel assistance to school sixth forms and colleges of further education. This information can be found on the schools admissions pages.
Free school meals
If you are responsible for a child attending a maintained school, your child could get free school meals if you:
- Receive child tax credit
- Do not work 16 hours or more a week, so you are not entitled to working tax credit and
- Have a family income of £15,575 (2008/09) or less
To make a claim you should contact the Children & Young Peole Information Service on 01454 868008. They will ask to see proof of benefit/tax credit award.
Free milk, vitamins and fresh fruit and vegetables
You could receive free milk and vitamins, providing you fulfil certain criteria:
- You receive Income support or Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
- You are pregnant
- You have a child under 5 years of age
- You receive pension credit guarantee credit, and you are pregnant
- You receive child tax credit but not working tax credit and have a family income below £15,575 (2008/09). You have a child with a learning or physical disability aged 5 – 16 years old who is not a registered pupil at school
