Our aim is to achieve efficiency, value for money, sustainability and equality.
Council priorities and procurement
| Best value: |
We achieve best value by effective and well-managed procurement. |
| Efficiency: |
We achieve efficiency by continually improving our procedures for selecting suppliers and making purchases. We are also using new technology to improve efficiency in procurement. This is known as 'e-procurement'. We also buy many of our supplies using corporate contracts which gives us better prices and saves time in sourcing products. |
| Sustainability: |
Our procurement policies and procedures address environmental, social and economic sustainability. We are keen to provide opportunities for small businesses. |
| Equalities: |
We aim to ensure good practice by both ourselves and by our suppliers. |
Collaboration in procurement
We try to work in partnership with other public sector organisations. We see the benefits as:
- Sharing the workload and costs
- Increased buying power
- More influence in contract management
- Learning through shared experiences
We are active members of the West of England Partners in Procurement group - see the link on the right.
