Play facility investment in South Gloucestershire

30 June 2009

South Gloucestershire Council has been awarded £1.1 million of funding to enhance or build new play areas across the district.

The council will be able to develop 24 schemes after a successful bid was made for playbuilder capital funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Funding is spread over two years, and the first 12 projects for this year include:

Parish/Town area

Pucklechurch, St Aldams Drive play space
Cromhall, Townwell play area
Dodington, Woodchester Park
Filton, Canberra Grove play area
Wickwar, Wickwar playing fields and play area
Patchway, Gorse Covert play space
Patchway, Scott Park
Bradley Stoke, Jubilee Green
Siston, Chapel Lane play area
Unparished (Staple Hill ward), Page Park
Stoke Gifford, Little Stoke Park
Yate, Brimsham Park

Cllr Heather Goddard, executive member for communities, said: “Our plans will benefit communities’ right across South Gloucestershire and provide our children and young people with exciting places to enjoy long in to the future.

“A key feature of the vision is a desire for people in local areas to think more about play and for children and their parents to be involved in the design of these spaces and help to decide what is right for their community.”

Consultation events for two play areas in Patchway are to be held at the Patchway Festival, which takes place on Saturday 11 July in Scott Park.

Visitors to the event will be able to look at display boards featuring photographs and sketches on how these areas could be developed. Representatives from the council will also be on hand to answer any questions and capture people’s views.

Residents who want any further information about these schemes should call 01454 865876 or email playbuilder@southglos.gov.uk
