Porches

If you are adding a porch to your property you will need to apply for planning permission if the porch:
  • Has a ground area (measured externally) of more than three square metres
  • Is higher than three metres above ground level
  • Is less than two metres away from the boundary of a dwelling house with a highway (which includes all public roads, footpaths, bridleways and byways)

You should measure the height of the porch from the ground level. If the ground is uneven, you should measure from the highest part of the surface.
