Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) is the process of finding out whether an existing or proposed policy/procedure/practice has a differential impact on different groups. It is about assessing the impact of actual or proposed policies/procedures/practices in relation to their consequences for equality.
The council consults widely - internally and externally with staff and community groups as well as with individuals - in order to take a comprehensive approach to EqIA and fully understand the changes we need to put in place in order to improve the services we deliver for all. Key routes which we use to consult are via the Equalities Forum and our online consultation systems. We also ensure that wide consultation is conducted in relation to specific policies, procedures and practices. To register to be involved in our consultations concerning equalities issues use the 'Do it now' link to the right of the page.
